THE JUVIES

Playin' Hookie (1990)

Leaping out of thin air were THE JUVIES in 1990 with their lone release, Playin' Hookie. The Yorkshire-based trio around front man and song-writer Darren Juvie a.k.a. Darren Parson created ten wild rockin' originals of high-octane Rockabilly in the vein of bands like The Polecats and Restless. With many songs stopped at the top end of the speed scale, opening slots with the cream of Psychobilly back then- Meteors, Guana Batz, Demented Are Go to name a few- and all good reviews in the music papers kept this chunk of vinyl also in demand by a strong Psychobilly following. Highlights are Alligator Shoes, Jukebox Jill, Gotta Run and Into The Fire, a song that was chosen for the Outrage compilation album.
